three-storey Chinese houses, a Godown covering some 7,250 Square Feet and a Workshop in Macdonnell Road, 8 old two-storey Chinese houses in Reclamation Street, 7 Chinese houses and a permanent shed in Station Street, 8 Chinese houses of which six were old, in Kramer Street at Tai Kok Tsui and 7, all about ten years old, on the Praya at Sham Shui Po collapsed in whole or part, while 3 others in Reclamation Street and 2 in Temple Street were badly damaged. 5 lives were lost and several persons injured by these collapses. The Kowloon Steam Laundry, a European building, erected in 1905, had an end wall blown down. Many minor injuries to private buildings have not been reported in detail.
In the New Territories 4 houses entirely and 22 partly collapsed in Tai Po New Market Town and 12 were flooded and collapsed in the adjacent old Market Town. Several houses were blown down at Au Tau on the other side of the Territories.
As the Police Stations at several other villages suffered severely, it may be inferred that few of the Chinese villages in the New Territories escaped entirely without injury.
